The Satellite Map of Latvia consist of 131 map sheets.
The Satellite Map is available as a printed map and in a digital form - in raster format (present CD) and in vector format (complete database).
This CD contains raster data in JPG format. The Satellite Map is produced as a digital database. It consist of 10 informative layers. Every layer contains information on a definite kind of objects.
The Satellite Map consist of the following informative layers:
- land use (forests, water bodies, swamps),
- hydrography (rivers and channels),
- roads (motor-roads, railways),
- point objects (farms, churches, towers etc.),
- geodetic points and bench marks,
- relief (contour lines and depth curves),
- power transmission lines, gas and oil pipes,
- grid (Latvian co-ordinate system - LKS-92),
- administrative borders, borders of districts, Civil parishes and towns),
- geographic names
Accuracy of objects in the map corresponds 10-15 meters in nature.
The layer of geographical names is worth of special attention. Every map sheet contains 900 place - names, a result of many years work done by the Toponimy Laboratory of the Cartography Board. The place name used in the map would become a basis for the Latvia's place-names database.
The map is intended to use for a wide range of population.
The advantage of the offered map is accessibility to information and a low price for the survey of the whole territory of Latvia. If you would like to get access to the information on the whole Latvia, you need acquire printed map sheets, in total 131. Taking into accuunt the size of a map sheet, around 60 square metres are necessary to spread all of therm out.
